Quality TV on the BBC
First: to declare an interest. I used to work at the BBC, and now, at Fishburn Hedges work on TV Licensing. But now the (hopefully) interesting bit.
The great thing about the BBC is coming across programmes which you won't find elsewhere, which you think "I'll try this for a few minutes" but then which you get addicted to. I remember accidentally tuning into "Tribe" when it first started, and watched every episode since.
Last night, though it was "WI" on BBC4 which had me transfixed. Was it WI PR-approved? Is it to demonstrate a radical change? Not convinced - but great telly. And then, "The Tower' on BBC1 - an absolutely engrossing documentary. Real people neither trying to make themselves celebrities by being on TV, nor being exploited by the programme makers. I'm hooked.
Tim Teeman's reviews in today's Times are spot on.
